Clinics

Flu Clinics

Every year, at about the beginning of October, we start the flu vaccination program, which runs until Christmas. The times of these clinics will be posted on the website, and on posters in the Health Centre. Anyone suffering from chronic illness is entitled to a “flu-jab”, that is anyone with Asthma, Diabetes, or Chronic Heart disease.

Also, anyone over the age of 65 should routinely have a vaccination every winter. You may also be asked if you would like to have a pneumonia vaccination. This is different from the ‘flu-jab, and is usually only needed once for the majority of at risk groups.

Registered carers of any of the above groups are also entitled to a yearly vaccination.

ALIVE/Hypertension Clinics - Tuesdays

The “Alive” clinics (for heart diseases), and the Hypertension clinics are Nurse-run clinics for anyone with Chronic heart Disease or Hypertension. It is recommended that anyone with heart disease has at least a yearly check up with bloods tests and ideally a 6 monthly blood pressure check also. You will be automatically recalled for these on a yearly basis.

Travel

With world travel becoming commonplace, the task of ensuring correct vaccination cover, and prophylaxis is becoming specialised. We run special clinics when adequate time can be set aside to discuss even complex travel plans. Courses can take a few weeks to complete and thus we advise seeing the nurse at least 4-6 weeks before travel. Our Travel nurses are experienced in giving advice on preventative measures to minimize the risk of illness whilst abroad.

Please note that some vaccinations required for travel abroad will incur a charge as per our pricelist.

Ask at reception for the forms to complete before a nurse appointment or click here for the Travel Questionnaire.

We are also a Nationally Accredited Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

Cervical Smears

These are carried out by our specially trained practice nurses. We operate a call and recall system and all our female patients between the age of 25 and 64 will be sent regular follow-up appointments to attend for this investigation. You will receive written notification of your smear result, usually within 6 weeks of the test. For more information about this procedure please click here.

If you have not had a smear within the last 3 years please ask for an appointment.

Family Planning

The doctors and nurses provide advice on family planning, including oral contraception, depot (injectable) contraceptive preparations and the fitting and checking of caps and coils. We can provide this advice in ordinary surgery appointments. Advice on emergency contraception is also available the same day.

Doctors in the practice hold weekly family planning clinics on a Friday for coil and implant procedures.
